HERMON – Thanks to the generosity of a local foundation, from this day on, the lives of Lois, Glen and Derek Barnes just got a whole lot better. Erin Thomas of Fox 22 has this uplifting story.

20-year-old Derek Barnes of Houlton was all smiles Thursday afternoon, knowing his ride back home to The County would be a smooth one.

Advanced Modifications installed a “Glide ‘n’ go” with funds from the Robbie Foundation, an organization that aims to help children and young adults in Maine with developmental disabilities. Like Derek, who suffers from hydrocephalus, a condition where fluid builds up on the brain.

And for Derek’s parents, it means an easier time getting to where they need to.
